How to install Minecraft Forge 1.20.5 in Minecraft [Guide]
How to install Minecraft Forge in Minecraft. As Mojang released Minecraft with new and advanced launcher, everyone is excited to try out the new version and of course install their favorite mods. But, before doing so, you need to install the dependencies (API’s) like Minecraft Forge or ModLoader first. Since the new launcher came up with a profile system, installing new mods is a troublesome process and many are stuck. So, here’s a little guide to install Forge to make your life easier.
How to install Minecraft Forge (by ezekielelin):
In this tutorial I’m going to refer to the minecraft folder (.minecraft,Application Support/minecraft, etc.) as [minecraft]. For example, the saves folder is located at [minecraft]/saves.
- Open [minecraft]/versions.
- Duplicate
- Rename to Forge-
- Open Forge-
- Rename .jar to Forge-.jar
- Rename .json to Forge-.json
- Delete Forge-.json and download this file: http://cl.ly/Q0YR. You will need to open the zip, then put it in [minecraft]/versions/Forge-/
- You should now have a folder looking like this:
- Open [minecraft]/libraries
- Make a folder called cpw and open it
- Make a folder called mods and open it
- Make a folder called fml and open it
- Make a folder called 5.2.29 and open it
- Download the latest 1.6.2 Forge and rename it to fml-5.2.29.jar
- Put it in [minecraft]/libraries/cpw/mods/fml/5.2.29
- Open the Minecraft launcher
- Make a new profile, set it to release Forge-1.6.1 as the version.
- Play.
You’ll have to follow the above procedure to install Forge in Minecraft or unless Lexmons/Forge team comes up a installer application. If you’re still having any trouble, post a comment below.

Deleting C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\versions\Forge-1.6.1\Forge-1.6.1-natives-51052308755443
Same
same (on Mac OS X)
Mac SUCKS waste of valuable money, you could have bought 500 chicken fries for that which is way better then a shack (Shit mac)
this is happening by me too!
Same problem too.
MAKE SURE THAT REMOVED META-INF FOLDER!!!!
rename fml-5.2.29.jar it to fml-5.2.29
Make a video tutorial cause im kind of confused
Does this work for 1.6.2?
yes. it is confusing on 1.6.2 as well
that means your minecraft hasn’t got any problems.the thing always happened to me when i finished playing.and no problem at all.if it says couldnt delete 1.6.x natives blalalbla that means its running normal
me too, why does it do that?, and its not opening!!!
Hey, I followed your steps…
Firstly,
Im on Mac OSX 10.7.5, Minecraft 1.6.1 .
Once I did everything listed above.. and pressed play.. nothing happens, like minecraft doesn’t start. The loading thingi in the bottum isn’t appearing either! Plz help! Thx..
It did that for me the first time, but I did everything again, and made sure it was actually the version of forge and not the installer for forge I put in the fml folder. And I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
Where did you find the actual version of forge and not the installer?
how do you get the actual version of forge and not the installer?
All – you need to extract
minecraftforge-universal-1.6.1-8.9.0.771.jar
from
minecraftforge-installer-1.6.1-8.9.0.771.jar
(or whatever may be current) – then rename
it to fml-5.2.29.jar and place it in
[minecraft]/libraries/cpw/mods/fml/5.2.29
The other thing that may not be clear (and not pictured)
is the directory structure:
[minecraft]/libraries/cpw/mods/fml/5.2.29
cpw, mods, fml and 5.2.29 are NOT sub folders of [minecraft]/libraries
what do you mean about them not being subfolders, i don’t understand.
can you show us how it supposed to go?
why Rename somthing and then delete it ?
i have the Porblem
Game ended with no troubles detected (exit code 0)
I followed every one of your steps but it won’t work. It’s like saying it gave up downloading with 2 failures. The game won’t even go start up.Help?
Same here
i ended with one failure. in the end it gives me this. :
:
Gave up trying to download https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/libraries/cpw/mods/fml/5.2.29/fml-5.2.29.jar for job ‘Version & Libraries’
Job ‘Version & Libraries’ finished with 1 failure(s)!
please help
same here
I have a mac and I followed your steps perfectly two times. When I open my luncher and try to make a new profile, the forge option does not show up.
sounds a bit difficult since its kinda like putting forge or Modloader for OS X on Mac but ill at least try
What do you do with the mods you want to play with after you install Forge?
I’ve followed the steps and as with espaw I get the same results, but my minecraft launcher also says:
Client> INFO: Using tweak class name cpw.mods.fml.common.launcher.FMLTweaker
Client> jul 03, 2013 10:06:17 AM net.minecraft.launchwrapper.LogWrapper log
Client> SEVERE: Unable to launch
Client> java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: cpw.mods.fml.common.launcher.FMLTweaker
Same! Plz help! Im a Youtuber and I do mod showcases! (Channel: Penny Cruzer)! Thx
Yhea umm, I know alot of people are complaining about this… but I think I show the console as well. I followed each step carefully (even back tracked multiples times.) And I still found the launcher would refuse to accept the jar/files.
Thanks for the try anyway! (im going to see what I could do different and report here.)

Ok it seems like most people in the comments (me included) are having the same problem. That is that when you open Minecraft and go to the launcher then switch to the profile for Minecraft Forge and click play the launcher starts up the when you get to the end of it you get this message. “Finished with 1 (or 2) failure (s)! So if anyone has a solution to THAT problem please post it it would help a TON of people.
it works with 1.5.2 (in the new luancher)?
Don’t work i’m getting this: http://pastebin.com/UAPZ5S4j
Works!!!!! Just do exactly like he said. (without this retarded thing of renaming a file and then deleting it. just download his .zip). It will give you the common error that everybody gets if you don’t rename the .jar.
Never mind. I got it to work. Do everything that he says except for the renaming of the modloader zip and don’t download his JSON file. Just open the existing JSON file and rename the text to what you called your files where it says “1.6.1”.
To get the actual FML jar, run the installer, select Extract, pick the location, and click OK. Then move it to the 5.2.29 folder and rename it per the instructions.
Thanks ziero…
It worked…
Use his method everyone…
didnt work, ends up with one failure
Hi guys. You don’t have to do what he tells you. Go back to the forge he made you download. Once you find it, open it. It should open and ask you to install client and whatever. What you want is client. Then, press install. Once it says successfully “bla bla bla” open the launcher. then press new profile. make the version forge 1.8.etc. then login and play. IT WORKS!!!!
Thank you! It worked!
I did this but after I downloaded it, and opened it, it just brings up the files within it… nothing pops up asking me to install a client.. I’m confsued
did you right-click it and select “open with” and open it with java?
THANKS!!!! IT WORKS!!
So, I can’t join any servers for NO APPARENT REASON.
Windows 8, Java 7 Update 25 32-bit and 64-bit, Minecraft 1.6.1.
Specs:
OS: Windows 8
Processor: Intel i5-3230M Dual-core @2.60GHz (Turbo: 3.2GHz)
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000
RAM: 8GB
Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard (HP)
System Model: HP ENVY m6 Notebook PC
Can’t figure out the problem
It doesn’t work for me, my minecraft doesn’t add forge, but it still plays
Yeah, same
is there any way of knowing if it worked or not? what will happen?
I do not manage to have Forge-1.6.1 version on my launcher
I do not have a 1.6.1 version, only 1.6.2
Thanks ziero…
It worked…
Use his method everyone…
So then where it says change version, Is there ment to be forge-1.6.2 in the drop down?
damn Bros… its easier if you
-download correct forge with (“installer”) from http://files.minecraftforge.net/
-open minecraftforge-installer-1.6.X-X.XX.X.XXX.jar (you may need to wait 1min)
-then click ” Install client “. it’ll install automaticly
-open the game check the profil rewrite your name and its must be okay
the guy aboves correct with the installer
Just use the forge auto installer!
forge install guide 1.6.4 but its 1.6.1
I coudn’t even find Forge-1.6.4 (I did it with 1.6.4) and when i tryed the name of the launcher minecraft just crashed.
